What to look for in a provider
- You keep your number. You shouldn't have to change what's on your truck or Google listing.
- Registered texting. US carriers require business texting to be registered (called A2P 10DLC). Unregistered texts get blocked.
- Opt-out handled for you. Anyone should be able to reply STOP and never be texted again.
- Personal calls stay personal. If your cell is also your business line, family and friends shouldn't get a business text.
- Reporting. You should be able to see how many calls were missed and how many turned into leads.
Is it legal to text people who called me?
Texting someone who just called your business, about the reason they called, is the kind of conversational message carriers expect, as long as the texting is registered, the messages identify your business and people can opt out. It isn't a license to send marketing: missed-call text-back should only reply to the call.
